Becker and Pallone Talk Physics in Texas

By David Westerman, PhD

Physics major James Becker ’15 presented his research at the American Physical Society annual meeting in San Antonio, Tex., in early March. He entered his poster, titled “In-air Rutherford Backscattering and Particle Induced X-ray Emission for Biophysics and Material Science Research,” in the student competition. This poster was the culmination of James’s 2014 Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship, carried out over a 10-week period and mentored by Physics professor Art Pallone, PhD. Prof. Pallone also attended the conference and presented a paper titled “Beyond Detection: Nuclear Physics With a Webcam in an Educational Setting.”
